EV Charger Install in Paeroa — What You Need to Know

Paeroa's EV market is small but real, and the install pattern here is different from anywhere else in our service area because of the housing stock — a high share of central Paeroa homes are heritage cottages and villas dating to the early 1900s.

What an EV charger install actually involves

  • Switchboard assessment — capacity, spare position, RCD compliance.

  • Mains check — older homes often have undersized mains.

  • Dedicated circuit run — 6mm or 10mm cable.

  • Charger mount and connection.

  • Test, certify and demo — Certificate of Compliance issued.

What's specific to Paeroa EV charger installs

  • Switchboard upgrades come with the EV install. Almost every Paeroa central home has switchboards from the 1960s-70s on top of original 1900s wiring. Almost every Paeroa EV install includes a switchboard lift first.

  • Mains supply often needs upgrading too. Old 60-amp mains aren't sized for an EV charger plus modern household load.

  • Careful work in heritage homes. Older lath-and-plaster walls, original villa architecture. Surface mounting, neat conduit, leaves the house looking respected.

  • Detached garages on the bigger sections. Trenched cable runs of 20-40 metres are normal.

  • Lifestyle blocks toward Karangahake and Mackaytown. Longer rural runs.

The charger options

Tesla Wall Connector, EVnex (NZ-supported, well-suited to heritage), Wallbox Pulsar Plus, Schneider EVlink.

What it costs

Simple modern-board install (rare) $1,500-$2,200 plus charger. Far more common heritage-home install (switchboard + EV) $3,500-$5,500 all-in plus charger. Mains upgrade adds another $1,500-$2,500. Lifestyle-block install with a long trench $3,000-$5,000 all-in.
