EV Charger Install in Raglan — What You Need to Know

EV chargers at Raglan are still a small slice of our work but it's growing fast — both from full-time residents and from Auckland and Hamilton bach owners who want the option of charging when they're down for the weekend.
What an EV charger install actually involves
Switchboard check — capacity, spare position, RCD spec.
Dedicated circuit run — 6mm or 10mm cable.
Charger mounted and wired in.
Test, certify and demo — Certificate issued.
What's specific to Raglan EV charger installs
Salt corrosion. Standard plastic enclosures degrade fast on a property near the waterfront. We spec marine-grade or corrosion-rated enclosures for any charger mounted outdoors.
Bach properties owned by absentee Auckland or Hamilton families. We quote off photos, schedule for access windows, send back photos of the finished install with the Certificate.
Older bach switchboards. Almost every Raglan EV install we do includes a switchboard check — often a lift to a modern RCBO-protected board with weather-rated enclosure.
Off-grid and solar-hybrid setups. A growing share of Raglan lifestyle blocks have solar plus battery.
Holiday-traffic charging patterns. Worth considering a charger with proper scheduling for off-peak hours.
The charger options
Tesla Wall Connector (metal-housing tolerates salt better), Wallbox Pulsar Plus (IP65-rated), EVnex (NZ support), Zappi (with solar).
What it costs
Straightforward Raglan install with modern switchboard $1,500-$2,200 plus charger. Most coastal installs come with a switchboard refresh too — $2,500-$4,500 all-in. Long trenched runs add $1,000-$2,000.

For absentee bach owners: photos of the switchboard, meter box, and where the charger should go is enough.
